To the Concord High School Class of 2020,
We know you are not okay right now, and we need you to know something very important:
It’s okay to grieve.
It’s okay to not be okay right now.
It’s okay to say it’s not fair.
Your senior year is one of the most memorable years of your school life. In fact, yours still is...it’s just not what any of us wanted for you: to spend your last moments of high school isolated at home. We wanted to see you spend your final days in the halls of your alma mater, laughing and joking with your friends, turning in the last minute assignments, studying for your final tests as a high school student, practicing for spring concerts, competitions, and sports.
Your parents, your friends, your teachers - none of us expected your year to end this way. We had plans to watch your final moments of playing baseball and softball together. We wanted to see you go to the FFA or FBLA state convention and find out what awards you would receive. We wanted to see the artwork you’d submit to the Arkansas Young Artist Association state competition. We wanted you to have pictures to fill your memory books with. We all wanted to see you dressed up for your last prom. We wanted to see you compete on your very last May Day. We all wanted to hug you at graduation and tell you how proud we are of you. We all wanted to cry at your precious baby pictures in your senior slideshow and to cheer for you as you walked across that floor in your cap and gown. We have to face the fact that we may not get those things this year for you, as hard as we might wish for all to return to normal before your senior year is officially over.
We know that your hearts are hurting that you’re missing these last precious moments. It isn’t fair, and we recognize that, too. After all, we’ve watched most of you grow up right here from kindergarten through your senior year. You are our kids, and we have been privileged enough to teach you over your school years and help you grow. We share your sadness and your grief. We will forever be proud of you and love you as our own kids, and we are here for you always.
